TapNote — Privacy Policy

TapNote ("we", "our", "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we handle your data.

Data Collection

TapNote does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to our own servers. We have no user accounts, no database of user information, and no analytics.

Audio Recordings

Audio is recorded locally on your Apple Watch or iPhone. Recordings are stored on your device and optionally synced to your Mac through your personal iCloud Drive.

Transcription

TapNote offers multiple transcription options. You choose which to use:

• On-Device (Apple Speech) — Transcription runs entirely on your device. No audio leaves your phone.
• TapNote Cloud — Audio is sent to our backend proxy, which forwards it to a third-party speech recognition service (Deepgram) for transcription. Audio is processed in real-time and is not stored by our proxy. The third-party service's data handling is governed by Deepgram's Privacy Policy.
• OpenAI (Bring Your Own Key) — Audio is sent directly from your device to OpenAI's API using your personal API key. Data handling is governed by OpenAI's Privacy Policy.

You can switch between these options at any time in Settings. On-device transcription is always available as a private alternative.

iCloud

TapNote uses iCloud Drive to sync recordings between your devices. This data is stored in your personal iCloud account and governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not have access to your iCloud data.

In-App Purchases

TapNote Cloud credit top-ups are processed through Apple's App Store. We do not collect or store any payment information. Purchase management is handled entirely by Apple.

Device Identifier

When using TapNote Cloud, a device-specific identifier (vendor ID) is sent to our backend solely for rate limiting purposes. This identifier cannot be used to track you across apps and is not stored permanently.

Analytics & Tracking

TapNote does not include any analytics SDKs, advertising frameworks, tracking pixels, or telemetry of any kind.

Children's Privacy

TapNote does not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this policy, we will post the changes on this page with a revised date.
